Updates from TRLF : Student Education and Youth Programs

TRLF Logo

I bring greetings from  the Tana Delta. In the last few months I’ve experienced issues with the Whatsapp account linked to my mobile number from Kenya. As a result I have created a WhatsApp account using my Malaysia mobile line +60 12 467 3040. Moving forward updates from Tana River Life Foundation will be sent from this number. Kindly add this number into your mobile address book if you wish to continue receiving updates on the foundation via WhatsApp broadcasts. I am now in Singapore and will be here till early June. I forward to meeting with you during this time.

Do let me know if you are able to meet. I am also contactable at +65-98338401 or gabrielteo@yahoo.com.

I am attaching some highlights on our work with students and youth in the Tana Delta as well as our progress in building a Student and Youth Hostel including Guest Quarters. They are available for download here :

Finally please note that we will not appeal for any kind of financial assistance, emergency or otherwise, using Whatsapp chat. Kindly do not entertain any such requests you may receive from this chat. God bless.

Sincerely,
Gabriel Teo

Buy delicious cupcakes and support Tana River Life Foundation : Nov 2 2012

Thank you for supporting Tana River Life Foundation.

We continue our mission to raise funds for the Education Centre Project with the second Bake Sale of 2012.  The project aims to provide affordable quality education to the communities in the Tana River Delta.  Facilities include a kindergarten, a primary school, a community centre with library, computer lab, seminar rooms, meeting areas, designated areas to house income-generating projects for the foundation and offices. The buildings which are oriented to benefit from natural ventilation and lightning have been designed to be environmentally sustainable incorporating solar power and rainwater harvesting. This 3-year project will cost S$2,000,000. To-date S$700,000 has been raised.

We’re targeting to raise $3,000 which will be matched dollar for dollar by Jonaran Trust, based in Malaysia. $6,000 will cover about 27% of the cost of a classroom. 10 classrooms will be built.

Thanks to the mother-daughter team of Norliza Jalil and Maria Chung together with Oh Chew Khoon, we will be holding the sale on Friday 2nd November. Cupcakes will be the theme of this sale. Once again we thank Esther Wee of Halia Restaurant and Gina Choong of Kitchen Capers who will be sponsoring our ingredients and packaging materials & kitchen space respectively. All proceeds from this sale will go to the foundation. It’ll be great if you could order a box or 2 of cupcakes and support our efforts to help educate the young in Kenya.

Thanks for supporting our Book Drives

Thanks for your generous contributions of books, time and energy. Over the last 3 years, we have shipped almost 15,000 books to the libraries built and supported by Tana River Life Foundation. Inspired by a single photo of empty shelves in a school library, we embarked on this project, which has since brought the joy of books to the community.

Works Of Heart :
He acted on his instincts… giving up a well-paying job to serve the unfortunate. But Gabriel Teo isn’t stopping at simply raising funds or awareness about his cause – he is bringing his aspiration to a rural area in far-away Kenya. His vision? To build a school and other educational facilities such as a library and computer centre for the needy. We meet the man and learn why he is convinced it is a worthwhile project he’s embarking on.
